Santa riding into Nanaimo to officially open Gingerbread Village

Nov 23, 2018 | 5:04 PM

NANAIMO — Santa will make an early trip to Nanaimo to give the community their gift.

He’ll swoop in on his sleigh, provided by Harbour Air, on Saturday and officially open the B. Gallant Homes Gingerbread Village at the Vancouver Island Conference Centre.

The grand unveiling of dozens of artfully-designed gingerbread houses kicks off four weeks of festivities. The public can choose their favourites and one will be crowned the people’s choice award winner.

All donations raised at the event go directly to the Salvation Army and their housing programs.

Christyna Bouliane, a head coordinator for the event, said they hope to exceed last years donations of $5,000.

“This really has become a huge community piece,” she said. “We’re so fortunate to be able to bring so many elements of our community together.”

The gingerbread houses will remain on display until Dec. 15. You can also decorate your own, take part in a colouring contest and enjoy a movie night. You can find full details here (link: http://www.bgallanthomes.com/gingerbread.html).

NanaimoNewsNOW will be live on Saturday at 11:45 for Santa’s arrival in the Harbour City.
