NANAIMO — RCMP are reaching out to the public for help tracking down a stolen bike relied on by a local man with significant mobility issues.

Police say the unique three-wheeled bike was stolen on Tuesday, Nov. 6 from outside the man’s central Nanaimo home.

“He’s had a lot of personal losses and has a great outlook on life, so we’re hoping the public will assist us in finding this bike and getting it back to him,” O’Brien told NanaimoNewsNOW.

He said the distinctive purple bike with baskets on the front and back was stolen from outside the man’s trailer on Bowen Rd. at East Wellington Rd.

O’Brien said despite numerous hard knocks in his life, the victim has a positive outlook in life and is well liked in the community.

He said the theft of this important bike from somebody who desperately needs it shows how low thieves will go.

“Thieves don’t care,” O’Brien said. “It doesn’t matter what it means to anybody, they just want it to have for their own possession or to sell it for drugs,” O’Brien said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Nanaimo RCMP at 250-754-2345, or anonymous tips can be made at Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
