A worried family and Nanaimo RCMP are reaching out to the public to help find a missing 24-year-old former exchange student.

Sungho Park, who also goes by Luke, hasn’t been in contact with his family in South Korea for six months. His father even travelled to Nanaimo, where he reported his son missing.

“The father was very upset,” RCMP Cst. Gary O’Brien told NanaimoNewsNOW. “He said it’s totally out-of-character for Park to have no contact with his family, which is a very tight-knit unit.”

Park was enrolled at VIU in early 2018 but O’Brien said he’s no longer attending classes and also hasn’t lived at his residence on file since August 2018.

RCMP did receive a tip Park was possibly seen a month ago and were also told he was spotted walking around Buttertubs Marsh, though the sighting couldn’t be confirmed.

“We’re hoping is someone does see him or knows where he is, they make contact with us immediately so we can get to him, assess his situation and let him know his parents are very concerned for his safety,” O’Brien said.

Park is five-foot-six, weighs roughly 145 lbs. with black hair and speaks some English.
