NANAIMO —The VIU Mariners men’s hockey team extended their winning streak to four games after defeating the University of Victoria Vikes 6-4 Saturday night at the Nanaimo Ice Centre. 

The BCIHL's leading goal scorer Garrett Dunlop scored two goals and added two assists in the win. The Mariners sit a top the BCIHL standings with nine points with two games in hand over second place Trinity Western University. 

The Mariners will travel to Burnaby next weekend for two games against Simon Fraser University. 

In the BCHL, the Nanaimo Clippers lost 4-1 in Powell River Saturday night. Sammy Steele scored the lone goal for the Clippers who have dropped three straight games. The Clippers are back on the ice Friday at home against Cowichan Valley. Game time is 7 PM at Frank Crane Arena. 


The VIU women's soccer team captured Gold Saturday at the PACWEST Championships in Burnaby with a 2-nil win over the Capilano Blues. The Mariners will now move on to the Nationals in Coquitlam starting November 6th.


On the hard court, after trailing by 6 points with 40 seconds to go in the fourth quarter the VIU men's basketball team stormed back for a 103-102 win over Northwest Christian University last night.
