Buccaneers keep rolling after melting Glacier Kings 7-1

Sep 21, 2018 | 6:37 AM

NANAIMO — The Buccaneers cruised to a 7-1 victory over the visiting Comox Valley Glacier Kings Thursday night in VIJHL action at the Nanaimo Ice Centre.

Darian Harris and Josh Zary each scored twice, while Brendan Rogers, Ethan Dyck and Tyson McLean also found the back of the net for the Buccaneers.

Nanaimo’s record is now 4-2, after the VIJHL deemed the club used in ineligible player versus Campbell River and Oceanside. As a result, the Bucs were assessed a pair of losses, while the Storm and Generals were each given a win.

The Bucs fired a whopping 57 shots on the Glacier Kings net, while Bucs’ goaltender Blake Wood only had to make 12 saves for the victory.

The 2 goal performance for Harris gives him 8 on the season, along with 10 points, to lead the Bucs in both categories. Harris, a 20-year-old from Ladysmith, also scored twice the night before in Nanaimo’s 3-1 win over the Westshore Wolves at the Q Centre.

Zary’s 2 goals gives him 7 on the season. The 16-year-old rookie from Nanaimo has scored in every game the Bucs have played this season.

Nanaimo travels to Mill Bay Saturday night to face the Kerry Park Islanders.

The Bucs next home game is Thursday, Sept. 27 versus the Peninsula Panthers at 7:15 p.m. at the Pirate Ship.
