Loaded, unsecured shotgun among several guns seized from notorious Parksville home

PARKSVILLE — A loaded shotgun found in plain view was one of several guns seized from a Parksville home well-known to police.

Oceanside RCMP Cpl. Jesse Foreman said a resident of the Martindale Rd. home called police early Monday morning and said someone there had unsecured guns.

“She was scared so we attended. We weren’t allowed into that property, so we had to obtain a search warrant, which we did.”

Foreman told NanaimoNewsNOW once police had permission to search inside they seized the loaded shotgun, along with three rifles and a replica handgun.

“We’re going to investigate whether they were legitimately owned and the people who had them have licences. When we found them they were very much unsecured,” Foreman said, adding several charges are expected in the near future but none were initially laid.

He said police are also trying to figure out if the guns were potentially stolen or used in a crime.

Police have responded to the home for numerous criminal and bylaw issues. Foreman said unfortunately the Regional District of Nanaimo and City of Parksville don’t have nuisance property bylaws like Nanaimo does, so they’re “trying every angle they can” to deal with the situation.
