Hamperville Nanaimo boosted by strong community support

NANAIMO — The people of Nanaimo delivered to help those who need help putting food on the table this time of year.

Hamperville Nanaimo, a joint effort between Loaves and Fishes Community Food Bank and the Salvation Army, wraps up Saturday (Dec. 23). Loaves and Fishes executive director Peter Sinclair said food donations have kept pace with demand.

“We’ve had a phenomenal Christmas season, the community has really responded, we’ve had tons of food coming in.”

Sinclair expected demand would be down slightly from original expectations of about 5,000 people and 2,500 households being given custom-made Christmas food hampers. There is one last chance for people to collect a hamper — Saturday between 12 and 3 p.m. at the Loaves and Fishes depot on Farquar St.
