Front of house knocked in during late night car crash

Aug 22, 2017 | 10:47 AM

NANAIMO — What once was a front door is now just a hastily patched hole after a car crashed into the front of a Bowen Rd. home.

RCMP Cst. Gary O’Brien said an SUV drove through the hedge surrounding the house at the intersection of Bowen Rd. and Ashlar Ave. and carried on into the front of the house just before 11:30 p.m. on Monday, Aug 21. He said the crash caused significant structural damage to the house, specifically where the front door and window had been.

“Neighbours said they heard a huge sound, almost like an explosion is how they described it,” O’Brien said.

The driver of the SUV was arrested for impaired driving at the scene while allegedly trying to back up out of the yard.

Thankfully neither the homeowner or driver were injured.

O’Brien said RCMP is now on the hunt for two people who allegedly got out of the SUV and ran away before police arrived.

“We want to assure them they’re not in trouble, they were passengers in a vehicle. However, we want to ascertain they’re okay and also get their version of the events.”

If anyone has information, they’re urged to call Nanaimo RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
