Campfire ban eased on Vancouver Island – still in place locally

Aug 30, 2016 | 2:10 PM

NANAIMO — The campfire ban affecting the Coastal Fire Centre has been relaxed.

As of Tuesday at noon, campfires are allowed on Vancouver Island from the Buckley Bay area north, according to the Coastal Fire Centre’s Marg Drysdale.

“Anything south of Hindoo Creek, which is just north of Buckley Bay, anything south of Strathcona, and anything south of Nootka Sound, you cannot have a campfire right now,” says Drysdale.

She says a ban remains in place for Denman and Hornby Islands for the time being.
