NANAIMO — The BC Coroners Service said they’re investigating after a severed foot was found inside a shoe near Nanaimo earlier this year.

The Service confirmed “the discovery of a disarticulated foot near Nanaimo on May 3, 2026, near Saysutshun Island, but was unable to share any further details due to the ongoing investigation.

The shoe is described as a synthetic, black Vessi brand Soho sneaker 2, men’s size nine, manufactured in January 2025, along with a black Champion brand athletic sock.

They believe it belonged to an adult male who went missing after January 2025, with no matches made to any missing persons.

It’s at least the 16th severed foot found in Coastal B.C. in 19 years, although the service hasn’t updated its “Feet Found” map since October 2021.

In May 2018, a right human foot inside a hiking boot was found in a cluster of logs on a Gabriola Island beach, which the Coroner’s Service said belonged to a male who went missing in early 2018, according to their Unidentified Cases page.

Nanaimo RCMP said they had no comment on the ongoing Coroner’s Service investigation.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Nanaimo RCMP at 250-754-2345, quoting case number 2026-13504.
