says mp vying to become bc premier

Courtenay-Alberni MP outs Gunn

NDP MP Gord Johns is calling out Conservative MP Aaron Gunn for stumping for provincial Conservatives instead of working for his constituents in Ottawa.

The Courtenay-Alberni MP said he’s risen 49 times in Parliament this session while Gunn has been gone.

“Aaron Gunn, the member from North Island – Powell River hasn’t risen a single time since we returned this fall,” he said. “Since the BC election I know he’s been out campaigning across the province instead of being in Ottawa bringing concerns of his constituents to the floor of the House of Commons.”

Johns said the controversial MP was in Port Alberni on Sunday for a meeting with the BC conservative candidate for Mid-Island / Pacific Rim.

“We can’t even find our local BC Conservative candidate in our riding,” he said. “Joshua Dahling isn’t available to meet with the Alberni District Labour Council or school classrooms or participate in the one-and-only All Candidates meeting in our riding, but he had time to host Aaron Gunn for a meet and greet.”

“The BC conservatives aren’t simply tolerating Aaron Gunn’s divisive rhetoric, they’re actively giving him a platform during this election campaign, while Parliament is sitting and instead of being in Parliament standing up for his constituents, he’s out there obviously campaigning for his future job either as Premier or as leader of the Conservative Party,” Johns said.

Gunn was scheduled to speak to party faithful at an Alberni brewpub, but backlash against his views of residential schools forced organizers to move to a secluded park in Cherry Creek.

We reached out to Gunns’ office, but they declined comment.
