‘Just take it in and try to enjoy it:’ Nanaimo rider ready as Tour de Rock rolls down Island
NANAIMO — The training is over, but now the real work begins for this year’s Cops for Cancer Tour de Rock riders.
The annual fundraiser for the Canadian Cancer Society, and Camp Goodtimes, starts Saturday, Sept. 19, in Port Alice, then continues down Vancouver Island, where it wraps in Victoria on Oct. 2.
Nanaimo RCMP mental health liaison officer Cst. Josh Waltman is representing the mid-Island in this year’s group and will lead the riders into Nanaimo on Sept. 27 and Ladysmith the following day, something he did during a ‘mock tour’ ride last month.
“What an incredible show of support we received from Ladysmith when we came in and being at the head, calling the waterfall and calling the dismount, it was incredible. I’m looking forward to representing the two communities that I’m riding for this year.”
