Dupuis said there was also a mental health component to the situation, with responding officers involving a Community Outreach Response (COR) team to work with the man.

The suspect was later released from custody under a promise to appear in court to answer to an uttering threats charge, with Dupuis noting their investigation is continuing.

Dupuis added calls involving firearms are treated extremely seriously by police, whether one is found on scene or not.

Such callouts are made using a unique tone on the police scanner, alerting all officers of the potential seriousness of the situation.

“Each response would be different based on the totality of what is presented, but an allegation of a firearm would have the highest response. There are multiple layers to that…in this specific case, there was enough information that police attended in person versus waiting for any support units.”
