Time Capsule: How will Nanaimo change in the next 10 years?

Jul 25, 2026 | 12:24 PM

NANAIMO — NanaimoNewsNOW is celebrating 10 years of covering local news across the mid-Island.

Already this week, our team has focused on looking back at some of the ways the city and region have changed during the last decade, including evolutions in transportation, healthcare, and local governance.

However, part of this looking back also has our newsroom looking ahead to the next 10 years in Nanaimo and the surrounding area and how the city and region might change.

We’d like to hear from you: tell us your hopes, wishes, and predictions for the next decade in Nanaimo.

What major changes will occur to how the city runs, will we finally get a large arena space? Will the Jean Burns ‘hole in the ground’ be transformed? Will a South End community centre come to fruition? What of the future of the E&N Trail?

Include your thoughts, by clicking here, and we’ll merge them into an article in mid-August to serve as a pseudo-time capsule to review when NanaimoNewsNOW turns 20 in 2036.

Entries automatically qualify for a $250 gift card to the Pacific Arts Market at Soundworks in downtown Nanaimo.
