Clippers knockout pesky Capitals in Game 7

Apr 28, 2026 | 1:29 AM

DUNCAN — The Clippers brought the Cowichan Valley Capitals to the brink of elimination and then the Capitals turned the tide and forced Nanaimo into a winner take all Game 7.

The series had taken a toll on the Capitals with several key players out of the lineup due to injury.

The Clippers were healthier, hungrier and more energetic in the final game of the series.

Charles Beland opened the scoring in the first period and with 29 seconds left Nanaimo thought they were up 2-0 but a Tanner Bruender goal was overturned on a video review.

An undaunted Clipper team controlled play for much of the middle frame and outshot the Capitals 16-7 but Cowichan scored the only goal, on a tip in by Brendyn Van Oene.

With the tension mounting in a 1-1 game both teams were thrown a curveball when a hole in the ice developed and delayed the game for about 15 minutes.

When play resumed the Clippers buckled down and got their second goal from Elliot Perreault on a four minute power play.

Moments later Indiana Grossbard scored on a breakaway to pad the lead to 3-1.

A late power play goal by Massimo Fazio tightened the game to 3-2 but the Clippers held on for the victory.

The final shots were 42-22 in Nanaimo’s favour with Eliot Seguin-Lescarbeau earning the win over Jaiden Sharma.

On special teams the Clippers went 1/1 on the power play and 1/2 on the penalty kill.

Nanaimo will now face the winner of the Prince George and Chilliwack series which will conclude on April 28.

The third round of the BCHL playoffs will begin on Friday, May 1
