Clippers advance to round two of the BCHL playoffs

Apr 11, 2026 | 1:57 AM

NANAIMO — The Clippers have advanced to the second round of the BCHL playoffs with a convincing 8-2 win in a decisive Game 5 series victory over the Alberni Valley Bulldogs.

Nanaimo was the first team to score first and win a game in the entire series.

The teams traded early goals with Patrick Fortune scoring on the man advantage and Grady Magner responding in a four on four situation for the Bulldogs.

Indiana Grossbard’s power play tally, his first career playoff goal, put Nanaimo up to stay and gave the Clippers a 2-1 lead at the first intermission break.

Hayden Fechner and Charles Beland increased that lead to 4-1 in the middle frame before Samuel Leonard got the game back within two.

Nanaimo pushed back and put the game out of reach thanks to Caden Okovita’s first of the post season and Fortune converting on a breakaway with 13 seconds left in the second period.

Jack Rimmer and Beland, on a power play rebound, capped off the scoring and ensured Nanaimo would advance to the second round.

The Clippers outshot the Bulldogs 39-29 while going 2/6 on the man advantage and 2/3 killing penalties.

Eliot Seguin-Lescarbeau took the win in net over Derik Brouillard and Jack Hirshorn.

Brouillard was pulled after giving up six goals in the first 40 minutes of the contest.

Nanaimo has now won four straight playoff series over Alberni Valley dating back to 2015 and the Clippers are 6-2 against Alberni all-time in post season matchups.

The Clippers will play in round two of the playoffs beginning on April 17 either on the road in Cowichan Valley or at home versus Victoria.

Victoria leads the other Coastal West best of seven series three games to two over Cowichan.
