Alberni getting warmer and drier
The Alberni Valley is getting warmer and drier every year according to Chris Alemany of alberniweather.ca
He said rainfall last year dropped 25% from previous years, and the average temperature has gone up a degree causing the minimum average temperature to increase as well.
“We’re not getting as cold as we used to,” he said. “The historical normal is around 4.5 degrees through the year in Port Alberni and we’re around 5° up to 7° in the city so that makes a big difference for the amount of snow that falls both in town and on the mountains.”
He says that warming trend is evident in local mountains now, with barely any snow.
