UPDATE: Full service resuming Monday afternoon between Nanaimo-Tsawwassen

UPDATE — BC Ferries confirms full service will resume late Monday afternoon between Nanaimo’s Duke Point and Tsawwassen via a replacement vessel.

The 12:45 p.m. sailing remains cancelled, however departures at 5:45 p.m. and 10:45 p.m. will sail as scheduled.

EARLER, NANAIMO — Mechanical issues on board one of its vessels are seeing a number of sailings either cancelled or at risk of cancellation.

BC Ferries cancelled the first round trip on the route on Monday, Jan. 19, with the 10:15 a.m. departure from Tsawwassen and the 12:45 p.m. sailing from Nanaimo’s Duke Point terminal also axed.

At risk of cancellation for the rest of Monday are crossings leaving Duke Point at 5:45 p.m. and 10:45 p.m., as well as 3:15 p.m. and 8:15 p.m. trips leaving Tsawwassen.

A statement from the company said the cancellations are “due to a mechanical difficulty with the vessel’s main engine fuel pump,” and engineers are investigating the issue.

Travellers with reservations on the sailings will be contacted by BC Ferries’ customer support to arrange a refund or passage on another sailing.

Service between Departure Bay and Horseshoe Bay is continuing as scheduled on Monday.
