In memory of Evan ‘The Hammer’ Hammond

Jan 2, 2026 | 10:19 PM

It is with deep sadness that I inform you of the passing of our colleague and friend, Evan Hammond, who passed away on January 2nd, 2026, at the age of 45.

Evan was a proud resident of Port Alberni and a dedicated member of the Pattison Media team at 93.3 The PEAK for more than 22 years. He was known for his commitment, sense of humour, and kindness. Evan personified being the ‘Sound of the Valley’, as the host of The PEAK morning show and the play-by-play voice of the Alberni Valley Bulldogs. He loved hockey, the players, coaches, and all the personalities around the great game. We’ll never forget the joy and passion in Evan’s voice when he was calling a Bulldogs come-from-behind victory. Every time he put on his headset to call a game he gave a masterclass in theatre of the mind. Evan’s description of a hockey game was second to none.

Evan deeply cared for his community, his family, and the many listeners of The PEAK. He has left a lasting impact on all of us and will be sorely missed.

He is survived by a loving family including three children.

Statement from Evan’s family:
Remembering Evan.
A Beloved Son, Brother, Father, and Community Storyteller.
The family of Evan extends their heartfelt gratitude to the community for the care, support, and encouragement they have received during this profoundly difficult time. Your compassion has been deeply felt and sincerely appreciated.
Evan was proud to be a voice on local radio and a storyteller for the community he loved. He found joy in sharing local history, celebrating its people, and bringing everyday moments to life through conversation and connection. That pride carried into the arena, where Evan served with great honour as the voice of the Bulldogs and Bombers, shaping the atmosphere of game nights and celebrating sport as part of the larger story that brings people together.
Evan loved being a dad to his children — Cally, Griffin, and Foster.
While Evan’s role was public, the family’s grief is private. The overwhelming enthusiasm to honour him, though deeply appreciated, has added pressure at a time when the family simply needs space to mourn together.
They ask for patience and understanding as they grieve and come together to determine, as a family, the right time and way to celebrate Evan’s legacy. They will not be providing further public comment at this time.
Thank you for your kindness, your understanding, and for honouring Evan’s life with respect and care.
Heather, Erin, Cally, Griffin, and Foster
