Ellen Frood celebrated at memorial

More than a hundred friends, family, coworkers and colleagues gathered last night to celebrate the life and legacy of Ellen Frood.

The former executive director of the Alberni Women’s and Community Services and Sage Haven Society died last week after a second battle with cancer.

Major Michael Ramsay emceed the memorial, and shared his memories of Ellen.

“Ellen did so much for this community,” he said. “Ellen stood up for those who needed standing up for. Ellen was a force to be reckoned with, and Ellen got stuff done. Ellen was my friend and I’m going to miss her a lot.”

A pillar of the Alberni Valley Social Services Community, Ellen’s vision led to the construction of the Second Stage Transition Housing project and many other programs to help women and families.
