Ronald Sadownik, November 14, 1943 – March 26, 2025
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ronald Sadownik, 81, of Nanaimo B.C., on March 26, 2025. He is survived by his wife, Patricia Robinson, as well as his former wife, Ardyth MacQuarrie, their two children Megan Sadownik and Bryn Sadownik, and three grandchildren. He will also be missed by his surviving brothers and sister, Rostyk, Robert and Iris. He is predeceased by his brother William. Born on November 14, 1943, in Lac la Biche, Alberta, Ron grew up in Grassland and went on to attend University of Alberta (drama education), University of Connecticut (theatre) and University of Oregon (film studies). After living in Toronto briefly, he settled in Calgary and taught drama at Forest Lawn, Lord Beaverbook and Central Memorial high schools. He was active in local theatre in the 1970s and 80s, starting the first amateur theatre group for children in Calgary, and directing plays for Theatre 80 and Workshop Theatre. He was also a talented artist, known for his distinctive abstract glass creations. After an early retirement he moved out to Nanaimo with his wife Patricia. Ron is remembered for his quiet humour and intellectual curiosity as well as for his passion for film, theatre, music, and art. There will be no public funeral service.
