NANAIMO — An ambulance and a sports car collided near an elementary school in central Nanaimo.

The incident occurred on Friday, April 4 just after 1 p.m. at the Bowen/East Wellington road intersection, adjacent to École Quarterway School, involving a northbound ambulance colliding with a 2019 Mustang GT 5.0.

Capt. Chad Porter with Nanaimo Fire Rescue said on scene he wasn’t sure how the two vehicles collided.

“We had one patient in the ambulance that was taken to hospital and two paramedics that were in the ambulance…I don’t believe there were any injuries.”

The Mustang’s driver, who did not provide their name, told reporters on scene he lost control of the vehicle while exiting the Chevron gas station across the street.

Faint tire marks were visible on the curb of a concrete median between the north and southbound lanes, leading to the crash site.

Traffic was limited down to one lane through the intersection for northbound vehicles, as a result of the crash.

Southbound traffic was relatively unaffected.

The scene was cleared shortly after 2 p.m.

Traffic was obstructed in the northbound lanes of Bowen Rd. as crews dealt with the situation. Southbound vehicles were unaffected. (Jordan Davidson/NanaimoNewsNOW)
