Overdose deaths drop in Alberni

New data has been released in the ongoing toxic drug battle in BC.

A 13% drop in deaths provincewide is reported last year with 2253 fatalities according to BC Coroner Service data.

In the Alberni-Clayoquot region there were 24 drug overdose deaths last year, a 37% drop from the 38 deaths in 2023.

In Nanaimo, 94 deaths were reported last year, down from a record setting 114 in 2023, while a similar reduction was reported throughout the Central Island region.

3/4 of toxic drug deaths in BC are men however the BC Coroner Service notes an increasing number of females are dying from tainted drugs.
