Spring Mayoral by-election called in Ladysmith

LADYSMITH — Voters in Ladysmith will head to the polls on March 1 to elect a new Mayor.

The Town’s top elected position was vacated in September when Aaron Stone left the position in favour of a private-sector position in Victoria.

Nomination packages for candidates will be available at Ladysmith City Hall on Esplanade Ave. during business hours, beginning Monday, Dec. 16.

The must be returned between Jan. 14 and Jan. 24, with early or late submissions not accepted.

Advance voting opportunities are scheduled for Feb. 19 and Feb. 26 in the lead-up to the Saturday by-election.

Stone was comfortably elected as the Town’s Mayor in 2014 and ran unopposed in both 2018 and 2022, winning by acclamation both times.

Coun. Tricia McKay has served as the Town’s acting Mayor since Stone’s departure.

The next round of local government elections province-wide is sceduled for Oct. 17, 2026.
