NDP’s Osborne re-elected

Incumbent NDP MLA Josie Osborne is heading back to Victoria to represent Mid Island Pacific Rim.

She said getting out into the riding and knocking on doors confirmed her commitment to addressing local issues.

“It felt great for me,” she said. “It was the first campaign where I got to be on the doors because in 2020 during the Covid campaign we didn’t get to do that so it makes a huge difference to be able to talk to people, face-to-face and really listen to people and hear their stories and where they’re at and understand what they’re struggling with and where they think things are going OK.”

Conservative candidate Adam Hayduk also spent many hours pounding the pavement with his campaign team, talking to people on their doorsteps.

“We were actually at the doors a lot of people making connections with people that wouldn’t have been engaged and maybe that’s why it’s a lot closer than the last election because people started to feel like they do have a voice that they heard,” he said

Hayduk said the election results has inspired his supporters to form a riding association and set up a foundation so they can do better next time.

Osborne defeated Hayduk with 48.5% of the vote compared to his 40%.
