The McLean Mill is about to play a starring role in an upcoming series of movies being filmed in the Alberni Valley.

One Mile and its sequel One More Mile are currently filming after months of prep work.

Producer Michael Lohmann says they were incredibly excited to discover the historic site and surrounding areas for their cinematic qualities.

“You couldn’t match anything to the McLean Mill anywhere in Vancouver and we looked all over the place,” he said. “In fact, we looked at other countries as well. We looked at US and several different states and as far away as Australia and we just couldn’t find anything that was as perfect as McLean Mill.”

One Mile is about a father and daughter who accidentally meet up with a hostile group in the woods, and stars Ryan Phillipe (phillip-aye) and Amelie Hoeferle.

City Economic Development Manager Pat Deakin says a second movie called The Stolen Child is also filming in the forests around Port Alberni.

“In the same way that One Mile is thrilled with McLean Mill, they’ve been absolutely thrilled with what they’ve been finding in the forest for the scenery, the trees, ferns that kind of thing,” he said.

Deakin says both productions will be moving into the city in the coming weeks, doing filming at Rainbow Lanes and Westporte Place.
