Nanaimo fire crews quickly knock down fast-moving brush fire along E&N Trail
NANAIMO — Within a matter of a few minutes a small spot fire expanded to about 30 square feet beside the E&N Trail across from Long Lake.
The fire was reported on Thursday, July 11 shortly before 7 p.m. in a grassy section between the trail and rail line, about 200 meters south of Galaxy Motors.
Nanaimo Fire Rescue (NFR) crews were on scene within seven minutes to quickly action the flames. Capt. Jason Battie said on scene calls like this emphasize the importance of a rapid response.
“That’s our focus is to respond as fast as we can to these fires, its been dry out, it’s windy tonight. If we don’t get to them quick they’re gonna move. We want to get to them and get water on them right away.”
