NANAIMO — They came, they danced and they’re conquering.

Jacksun Fryer and Carlow Rush, better known by fans as the Island-based dance duo Funkanometry, are through to the finals of Canada’s Got Talent after performing to the Lipps Inc. song ‘Funky Town’ on the Tuesday, May 7 episode of the show.

“I think you are the act that I would want to see over and over and over again,” show judge Lilly Singh said after their performance. “You are so fun to watch and I feel like the world and Canada would want to see you perform.”

The pair were among six acts selected by judges to advance to the Tuesday, May 14 finale, and were also the only performance from B.C. to make it this far.

Much like their audition, which aired in early April, the four-member judging panel was overwhelmingly positive about the group’s talents.

“You guys are dancers, you guys are storytellers, you guys are comedians, you are performers and in my opinion, you are exactly what our million-dollar season needed,” Trish Stratus said.

Even Howie Mandell, who was critical of Funkanometry during a follow-up performance on America’s Got Talent in 2022, said they’d come a long way.

“That was a winning performance, I’m so proud of you.”

Rush and Fryer performed a mash-up dance, highlighted by Queen’s “Don’t Stop Me Now” during their first appearance on the show.

The other acts automatically through to the finals include a comedian from Halifax, NS, a singer and magician both from Toronto, a stunt team from Quebec and another musician from Prince Albert, SK.

Four more acts, including one from B.C., will be subject to a fan vote with two also making next week’s finale.

Canada’s Got Talent airs Tuesdays on CityTV.
