NANAIMO – Housing market unexpectedly calm in March

In March, 88 single-family homes sold in Nanaimo, a 33 per cent increase from February but an 11 per cent decrease from the previous year. Active listings of single-family homes on the Mid-Island were 1,084 in March, up 12 per cent from the previous year.

The average price for a single-family home in Nanaimo was $847,984 in March, on par with the previous month but up 11 per cent from March 2023.

These are the benchmark numbers for Nanaimo in March 2024, as well as central and northern Vancouver Island:

  • Nanaimo’s benchmark price increased to $794,900, a slight increase from last month and a 6 per cent increase from the previous year.
  • Campbell River’s benchmark price for single-family homes was $677,500, up 8 per cent from the previous year.
  • Comox Valley’s benchmark price increased by 10 per cent from last year to $856,300.
  • Cowichan Valley reported a benchmark price of $753,200, up 3 per cent from March 2023.
  • The Parksville-Qualicum area increased 2 per cent from the last year to $867,300.
  • Port Alberni’s benchmark increased 4 per cent from last year to $528,800.
  • The North Island area decreased 4 per cent last year with a benchmark price of $407,100, the only decrease on the Mid-Island.
