Aquatic Survey Goes Interactive

PORT ALBERNI – The Regional District has launched an interactive survey to determine the types of features wanted at a new aquatic facility, while also informing people about the costs of those extras.

ACRD CAO Daniel Sailland says 86% of first phase survey respondents said they want a new aquatic centre, and now the second phase advances that discussion.

“The second phase now includes numbers and talks about the impacts of how we would advance that if we included certain key aspects in the facility as people indicated,” he said. “It allows them to build the facility with the key aspects that they want and it gives them a real-time breakdown in costs of how much it would impact their taxation if we went forward with this alone.”

Want a leisure pool section with a lazy river?

That’s 7 million dollars.

Want a wave pool? That’s 10 million. 25 metre 6 lane lap pool? That’s $13 million.

Want a 50 metre 8-lane lap pool? That’s $28 million in a project that is forecast to cost between 45 and 90 million depending on design.

All Valley residents are encouraged to participate in the survey which is available on the ACRD’s website, or by attending an upcoming open house at Echo Centre on Wednesday, November 29th.
