LADYSMITH — Funding has been approved for a new addition to Ladysmith’s waterfront.

The Town announced a $50,000 grant through an Island Coastal Economic Trust (ICET) is funding what’s known as a Saddlespan tent for the amphitheatre at Transfer Beach Park.

Improved experiences at large community events like Canada Day, Ladysmith Days and National Indigenous Peoples Day are envisioned for the portable device.

“Enhancing the vitality and adaptability of our amphitheatre through this unique project is a great addition to our waterfront,” mayor Aaron Stone stated in a news release.

“The project will require staff to be responsive, which is important in attracting new events and ensuring the long-term sustainability of our amazing waterfront areas.”

The outdoor public amenity will be available for rent, with the Town noting additional details will be available on the facility rental section of the Town’s website in the coming months.

When not in use, the tent will be disassembled and stored for other waterfront events, the Town noted.

Well-used Transfer Beach Park has benefitted from numerous upgrades in recent years, including a new washroom facility.
