VI Raiders looking for answers after yet another break-in

Jun 9, 2023 | 2:11 PM

NANAIMO — The Vancouver Island Raiders junior football team is once again reeling following a break-in and theft of equipment from the team’s Caledonia Park field house on Wall St.

Nanaimo RCMP say officials from the team went to their equipment storage locker on Monday, May 22 around 5 p.m. to find a broken front door lock.

Someone gained entry between Sunday, May 21 and the next day, and made off with a large amount of valuable football gear.

Stolen equipment includes 20 Nike Vapor footballs, five travel bags, two pairs of football cleats, and an unknown number of assorted jerseys, girdles, game pants, tools and equipment.

There are currently no suspects or witnesses, and Nanaimo RCMP is asking anyone with information to contact them at their non-emergency line at 250-754-2345.

This latest theft follows at least two other police incidents affecting the VI Raiders, including an almost complete clear-out at their Caledonia Park facility last year, an early morning fire at the same practice facility last July, and a break-in to a storage container at their former practice facility at Comox Park in 2021.

The Raiders are members of six team BC Football Conference, which plays games from late July to October.

Home games for the Raiders are staged at q’unq’inuqwstuxw Stadium adjacent to Nanaimo District Secondary School.
