Janis “Jae” Valentine – March 23, 1964 – May 30, 2023
Janis “Jae” Valentine was a beloved friend and wife, a passionate and generous person who lived life to the fullest, on her terms and loved many people over her 59 years. After a brief battle with breast cancer, she passed away peacefully on the morning of May 30, 2023. Jae officially retired and moved from Nanaimo BC to Chapala, Jalisco, Mexico in October of 2022 with her best friend and life partner of 17 years, Bill Walker. Prior to that she was managing partner at the Cable Cove Inn in Tofino, worked at the Vancouver Island Symphony in Nanaimo and spent most of her career working in the newspaper industry in Calgary, Alberta. Jae, Janis Lebrecque, was born on March 23, 1964, in Taber, Alberta and grew up in Calgary, Alberta. She was the adopted child of wonderful parents John and Patricia Labrecque and she had 4 siblings; Tim, Michael, Colleen and John as well as 4 nieces and 2 nephews. Jae had three stepchildren whom she deeply admired, Emilie, Marina and Tom as well as 2 grandchildren George and Charlie. Jae had a huge personality and loved socializing, debating politics and spending time with her sweet Doodle Cooper who will greatly miss her. She had a lifelong passion for reading, travelling, adventure and music. Jae leaves behind many dear friends and family. She will be deeply missed by those closest to her but her memory will live on.
