NANAIMO — Just over three months out from one of the Island’s largest music festivals, organizers have announced a major headline act.

Sarah McLachlan, an Order of Canada recipient and internationally recognized singer-songwriter, will perform at the festival held in the Comox Valley on Friday, July 14.

Festival marketing manager Sue Wood said it’s a major win for the festival.

“Her management and Sarah are such delightful people, it was a real pleasure to work with them and we’re so excited to have her on the concert bowl stage. (There were) lots of conversations about requirements and timing and all those kinds of things.”

The process of signing McLachlan took a considerable time, but anchors a recently released music lineup for the three-day event running July 14 to 16.

Rickie Lee Jones and funk-group Galactic are just two of the over a dozen acts which will perform on the concert bowl stage at the Comox Valley Exhibition Grounds.

Wood added the festival is a major draw for music lovers far and wide.

“Music Fest does draw audiences from across the Island as well as the province and a great many people come from Western Canada. It’s a destination for sure and we’re looking forward to celebrating music with everybody this summer.”

Tickets sales have been good to date, according to Wood, with packages ranging from $150 for youth to $240 for adults.

In January, Wood reported early sales were extremely strong and had set them up well.
