SAANICH — “Johnson now, trying to march his way out in front, he gets his shot away HE SCORES!!! GENERALS WIN! GENERALS WIN IN OVERTIME, YEAH BABY!” was the call from voice of the Generals Kyle Ireland.
For the first time in over a decade and the fourth time in franchise history, the Oceanside Generals have won the Brent Patterson Memorial Trophy as Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League champions.
League MVP and leading scorer Carter Johnson broke a 4-4 deadlock 12:28 into the second overtime session to give the Generals a 5-4 win in game six of the final over Saanich on Friday, April 7.
“I just picked the puck up, wheeled behind the net, the guy had no stick and it worked out,” Johnson said after the win. “It’s unreal, unreal to do it tonight with all these boys.”
