Nanaimo Council adopts plan for unique new park
NANAIMO — Following many years of informal uses, the City of Nanaimo intends to add a few basic amenities to portions of a grassy field along the Millstone River.
City Council unanimously endorsed a formal plan for East Wellington Park, a 30 acre property at 2191 East Wellington Rd., during a Monday, April 3 council meeting.
Purchased in 2014 to better support downstream portions of the Millstone River, the semi-rural property has long been a destination for dog walkers, nature viewers and star-gazers, said the City’s Deborah Beck.
“This property is unique as it one of the few park parcels that is located in the Agricultural Land Reserve,” Beck, the City’s parks and open space planner, told councillors during a presentation.
