LADYSMITH — Police are investigating after a body was found at the south end of Ladysmith on the shore of Davis Lagoon.

On Wednesday, March 8 around 1:10 p.m., Ladysmith RCMP were called to the area of Lagoon Rd. near Chemainus Rd after someone saw what they thought was a body along the shore.

Police arrived and found a deceased person, and based on evidence gathered at the scene, they believe the death to be suspicious and the body may have been there for several days.

The Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit (VIIMCU) is now investigating.

Police are currently seeking information on a black Toyota RAV4 located at the lagoon on the same day.

Island District RCMP media liason officer Cpl. Alex Bérubé stated it’s too early at this stage to know what led up to the death of the individual.

“We are looking for anyone with video surveillance or dash cam footage from anyone who lives in the Davis Lagoon area from 11:00 p.m. on March 5 to 12:00 p.m. on March 6. We are also looking to speak with anyone with dash cam footage who may have travelled on the Trans-Canada Hwy. during this time passing through Ladysmith and Chemainus.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact the VIIMCU information line at 250-380-6211.
