Clippers second period let down leads to 4-2 loss in Langley

Feb 25, 2023 | 10:23 PM

LANGLEY — The Coastal Division leading Clippers lost 4-2 to the eighth seeded Langley Rivermen.

The two teams traded goals late in the first period with Owen Kim giving Langley the lead and Lukas Klemm notching the tying goal in the final minute.

Early in the second period a quick strike by Nick Messina from an errant Clipper pass put the Rivermen up to stay.

Vitaly Levyy and Kim also scored in the second frame to put Langley up 4-1 and in the drivers seat.

The Clippers put a press on in the final period and got a power play goal from Kai Daniells but they were stymied time and time again by goaltender Ajeet Gundarah.

Gundarah stopped 56 of 58 shots to take the win over Nanaimo’s goaltending tandem of Aidan Campbell and Shane Shelest.

Campbell gave up the four goals in 35 minutes and Shelest didn’t allow a goal in the last 25.

The final shots were 58-27 with Nanaimo going 1/2 on the man advantage and not giving up a power play.

Nanaimo has played .500 hockey in February with a 4-4 record.

They’ll wrap up the month with a visit to Coquitlam on Sunday Feb. 26 at 3 p.m.

Langley snapped an eight game losing streak dating back to Jan. 28.
