NANAIMO — Accolades continue to mount for Lauren Spencer-Smith.

The 19-year-old is up for two Juno nominations, revealed during a Tuesday, Jan. 31 announcement, including artist of the year and TikTok Juno fan choice.

The latter of the two nominations is set to be voted on by viewers at home.

Her meteoric rise as a singer-songwriter began with a top-20 performance on American Idol in 2020 and subsequent performances on American television and stadium events.

She will go up against Avril Lavigne, Michael Buble, Shawn Mendes and The Weeknd for the Juno’s big award of artist of the year.

The Juno Awards take place on March 13 at Rogers Place in Edmonton.

Last year was one of immense progress for Spencer-Smith, who released a chart-topping single early in 2022.

She also performed during an event at Wembley Stadium as well as at the People’s Choice Awards.

Spencer-Smith returned to network television in the summer, introduced as the musical guest for the Aug. 8 episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, where she sang her single ‘Narcissist’.

The nominations are the second round for Spencer-Smith at the Juno’s.

She earned recognition for her album ‘Unplugged Vol. 1’, when she was nominated for Adult Contemporary Album of the Year.
