Advance voting opens ahead of Oct. 15 civic election

NANAIMO — The first of two advance voting opportunities for upcoming General Local Elections to form local councils and school boards takes place province-wide on Wednesday, Oct. 5.

Voters must be 18-years of age as of general voting day, be a Canadian citizen and resident of British Columbia for at least six months. An eligible voter must also be a resident of the community where they are voting.

People who are not on a voters list can register immediately prior to voting. At least two pieces of identification are required to register, including one which includes the person’s signature. ID should prove residency.

City of Nanaimo:
Advance voting takes place at Beban Park Social Centre at 2300 Bowen Rd. on Wednesday, Oct. 5 and Oct. 12 between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m.

Regional District of Nanaimo:
Advance voting takes place at five venues throughout the RDN, with All RDN voters having the option to mark their ballots at the Regional District of Nanaimo administration building at 6300 Hammond Bay Rd. on Wednesday, Oct. 5 between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m.

Advance voting takes place at Costin Hall at 7232 Lantzville Rd. on Wednesday Oct. 5 and Oct. 12 between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m.

City of Parksville:
Advance voting takes place at Parksville Community Centre at 132 Jense Ave. East on Wednesday Oct. 5 and Oct. 12 between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m.

Town of Qualicum Beach:
Advance voting takes place at Qualicum Beach Civic Centre at 747 Jones St. on Wednesday Oct. 5 and Oct. 12 between 8 a.m and 8 p.m.

Town of Ladysmith:
Advance voting takes place at Ladysmith City Hall at 410 Esplanade on Wednesday Oct. 5 and Oct. 12 between 8 a.m and 8 p.m.

General Local Elections throughout the province take place on Saturday, Oct. 15, which involves voting between 8 a.m and 8 p.m.
