Nanaimo NHL’ers swapping jerseys during first day of free agency
NANAIMO — A pair of players with local hockey connections have moved as the NHL opened up its annual free agency period.
Dylan Coghlan, who grew up in Nanaimo, was traded from the Vegas Golden Knights to the Carolina Hurricanes, along with forward Max Pacioretty, in exchange for future considerations. Coghlan was coming to the end of a one year deal but did not receive a qualifying offer from Vegas.
It’ll be the second NHL team Coghlan has suited up with after making his league debut with the Golden Knights in 2021. He scored his first goal, later converted into a hattrick, during a March 20, 2021 game against Minnesota.
Coghlan played 88 games with the Golden Knights, scoring six times and adding 13 assists.
