NANAIMO — Cooper Black recorded a second straight playoff shutout to lead the Clippers to a 4-0 victory over the Langley Rivermen in Game 1 of the Coast Division final.

The last time Black was scored on was Monday April 18, a span of 171:46 without surrendering a goal.

He made 36 saves with Nanaimo being outshot 36-29 by the Rivermen.

Sean Donaldson was the offensive catalyst with two goals. His nine post season goals lead the BCHL and he’s also sixth overall in playoff points.

Nanaimo led 1-0 after one and it stayed that way until Brody Waters scored off a faceoff in the first minute of the final period.

Kai Daniells had the Clippers other goal into an empty net.

Nanaimo’s penalty kill was very sharp going 5/5 while they had only 18 seconds of power play time in the game.

With three third period goals the Clippers have outscored their opponents 16-4 in the final frame in the playoffs.

Nanaimo has also not trailed in any game since Game 2 of the first round, a string of seven straight games.

Game 2 of the series goes at 7 p.m. on April 30 at Frank Crane Arena.

The series shifts to Langley for games on May 3 and 4 at the George Preston Recreation Centre.
