Clippers edge Chiefs in tight 2-1 playoff contest

NANAIMO — Cooper Black won a battle of the goaltenders against the Chiefs Grant Riley in Game 1 of the second round of the BCHL playoffs.

The Clippers won 2-1 with Black making 33 saves and being named the game’s first star.

Brody Waters and Sean Donaldson notched third period markers to propel Nanaimo to the win

Chilliwack’s tally came from Chad Muller.

All the goals came in the first six minutes of the final frame.

There were several near misses for both teams on the night including a goal post for Chilliwack’s Connor Milburn late in regulation time.

Nanaimo was outshot 34-20 on the night while going 0/3 on the man advantage and 4/4 killing penalties.

The Clippers have now won all five of their playoff games and have captured home ice advantage in the best of seven series.

Game 2 is slated for April 16 at 7 p.m. at the Chilliwack Coliseum.

Nanaimo will host Games 3 and 4 on April 18 and 19.
