Mar 6, 2022 | 5:00 PM

NANAIMO — The Clippers had a 4-1 lead through 40 minutes but needed an empty net goal to seal up a 5-3 win over the Eagles.

Ben Kotylak with two goals and an assist and Tristan Fraser with a pair of goals led the way for Nanaimo, while Cooper Black record his 20th win over the season with 38 saves.

The Clippers scored two goals in each of the first two periods but Surrey ratcheted up the pressure in the final frame to see the tight at 4-3 in the final few minutes.

The final shots were 42-41 for Nanaimo with the Clippers going 0/2 on the power play and 2/4 killing penalties.

The Clippers concluded their season series with the Eagles with a 3-2-0-1 record.

With Nanaimo sitting third in the Coastal Division standings and Surrey in sixth, the two teams would be first round playoff opponents if the standings don’t change.

The Clippers have a busy weekend on the horizon with games Mar. 11, 12 and 13.

Nanaimo will play Langley at home and then Victoria and Alberni Valley on the road.
