PARKSVILLE — A passerby who reported a man passed out in his vehicle in Errington led Oceanside RCMP to a significant drug bust.

Officers were called out to a vehicle parked on a side street off Hwy. 4A in the afternoon of Saturday, Jan. 29.

Sgt. Shane Worth told NanaimoNewsNOW police found a man passed out in his vehicle with amounts of illegal narcotics and related items in plain view.

“Subsequent to the arrest, they searched the vehicle and turned up a lot of other drugs that appear to be packaged for sale. Different amounts and types of drugs, we were able to get these drugs off the street and keep our community safe.”

Worth couldn’t say why the 38-year-old Qualicum Beach man was passed out.

In addition to hundreds of grams of crack cocaine and crystal meth, police also seized weigh scales and a quantity of cash.

“This is a significant seizure for the Oceanside RCMP, it will put a dent into the street-level drug trafficking that is occurring here,” Worth said.

The man was eventually released from custody pending charges being laid.

Worth credited the caller for making this bust possible and said if anyone sees anything out of the ordinary, they should call them to check it out.
