Eagles blanket Clippers in 4-1 win

NANAIMO — The Clippers three game winning streak came to an end with a 4-1 loss to Surrey.

Nanaimo could muster just 14 shots on goalie Eli Pulver while giving up 35.

Brody Waters scored the Clippers only goal midway through the first period with the Eagles counting two in the first and one each in the final two periods on netminder Jed Baliotti.

Nanaimo had chances on the man advantage but went 0/5 and 1/2 on the penalty kill.

Two factors working against Nanaimo were the loss of their leading scorer Sean Donaldson who served the first game of a three game suspension and the fatigue from playing their third game in three days.

The Eagles were fresh from a full week off while the Clippers were playing their first set of three games in 72 hours this season.

Nanaimo finished the month of January with a 5-2-1 record, good for third place in the Coastal Division.

They open February with another three games in three days.

The Clippers visit Chilliwack on Feb. 4 and they play in Surrey on Feb. 5 and Feb. 6.
