NANAIMO — Local police are investigating an assault on a north Nanaimo running trail involving a woman pushed to the ground and aggressively held by a male suspect.

It happened on Tuesday, Nov 9 at 11:20 a.m. in Linley Valley Cottle Lake Park off Burma Rd.

A Nanaimo RCMP news release stated a black dog, believed to be a standard poodle or similar breed with a cropped tail, approached and accidentally tripped a female jogger.

She called out to the owner, who police said then stopped running, approach the woman and “violently pushed her to the ground.”

She managed to take a picture of the suspect, which appeared to enrage him more, police said.

The man then aggressively held her arms, causing her to scream. He then broke off the attack and was last seen running on the trail with his dog.

“Stranger on stranger assaults are rare and police would like to identify this suspect in order to safe guard the public and further the investigation,” police said in the release.
