NANAIMO — The first of four advance voting opportunities is underway prior to the federal election.

The early in-person voting option runs across Canada between Friday, Sept. 10 and Monday Sept. 13 between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. before Election Day on Sept. 20.

Andrea Marantz with Elections Canada said eligible voters can find where to vote on the back of their voter information card or on the Elections Canada website.

“You can’t just go to any advance polling place in your riding, you have to go to your assigned poll, the same as election day,” Marantz said.

Entering your postal code on Elections Canada’s website will reveal all of the required information voters need in order to vote.

People are asked to bring their voter information card and identification with them to the voting venue.

Electors must where a mask as directed by provincial health orders, which will be provided to those who forget to bring one.

Voters are recommended to bring their own pen or pencil to mark their ballot, while single-use pencils will also be available.

Voters wishing to cast a ballot by mail must send it by Tuesday, Sept. 14 at 6 p.m.

About 4.9 million Canadians took part in advance voting in the 2019 election, far surpassing the 3.6 million people who took advantage of the option in the 2015 federal election.
