The Music Within

A report from a local Love Everywhere Scout (my hairdresser)…she was trimming a client’s wig and when the lady (who was beginning chemo) went to pay, she found out the one of the other customers had paid for her service for her.  What a spectacular random act of kindness!

One a totally other note, and I am telling you this for a reason… I went for a colonoscopy this week. My Dad had colon cancer and had a colostomy for over 10 years. Because of this family history I am advised to go every 5 years for this procedure. It’s not fun, but it sure beats colon cancer and it feel very good to leave with a clean bill of health.  If you have some family history that begs regularly scheduled check-ups, please take advantage of the opportunity to get checked out.

What was fascinating to me, besides her incredible talent, was the faith that she had that spontaneous music would always flow out of her finger tips.  As she sits at the piano, not knowing what original score will come out, or what it will sound like – she has complete and utter trust that something beautiful will appear.

As we go through our days, which are often very planned and purposeful, it would be beneficial to allow time for unstructured space, time to allow ‘improv’ to fill in the time. This  could allow time to talk to a stranger, to be unhurried, to meditate, to let another car into line. All the while being confident that something  wonderful will come into that time.

The other thing that I thought was fascinating was Deborah’s ability to let the music go. If it  was not captured on recordings, I asked her if she ever feared that something beautiful would be lost and she would never get it back again. Her answer, “Never.”

Again, the knowing and trust that there will always be more, the feeling of abundance that comes from letting go.

In our lives we are often so attached to the old things, we cannot make room for the new. Old clothes, old jobs, old labels, old friends who perhaps are not in alignment with who we are or who we want to be. Perhaps if we could take Deborah’s philosophy to heart, it would help us progress in our lives, too.

Let go and trust there will always be something new and beautiful coming out of you and coming to you!
