COVID-19 vaccination registration begins for people aged 18-40+

NANAIMO — The province’s age-based program for the COVID-19 vaccine registration is expanding.

B.C. residents 18 years of age and older in the general population who had been not previously included in earlier rounds of vaccination can begin to secure their place in line.

The new schedule and age cohorts will give more than 1.8 million residents across the province an opportunity to complete the first stage of getting the vaccine.

Residents born 1976 and earlier, Indigenous people 18-years-old and up and those who are clinically extremely vulnerable can also continue to register for their vaccine appointment.

Once registered, residents will be contacted when it’s their turn to book a appointment. The fastest way to register is online, through the government’s website.

Residents can also call the provincial call center or sign up in person at any Service BC location.

The following is a list of new dates and the new age cohorts;

– Monday, April 19 – Registration opens for people aged 40 and up
– Tuesday, April 20 – Registration opens for people aged 35 and up
– Wednesday, April 21 – Registration opens for people aged 30 and up
– Thursday, April 22 – Registration opens for people aged 25 and up
– Friday, April 23 – Registration opens for people aged 18 and up

As of April 17, 2021, more than 1.2 million people in B.C. received their first vaccine dose.

Over 46,000 doses of vaccine were administered in a 24 hour period between Thursday, April 15 and Friday, April 16. All but 71 were first doses.

Three vaccination clinics, administering the Pfizer and Moderna shots are operating on the mid-Island, at Beban Park, in Cedar and at the Parksville Community Centre.

Doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine are available for people aged 55-64 through select B.C. pharmacies, including over a dozen in Nanaimo and Parksville.
